GR-IX, The Greek Internet Exchange, reaches an all-time high internet traffic record of 1Tbps

GR-IX, the Greek Internet Exchange, set a new traffic record, reaching the 1 Tbps milestone for the first time on January 20, 2026, confirming the steady upward trend and the pivotal role of GR-IX in the Greek Internet ecosystem.

GR-IX is a neutral and independent Internet Exchange, with a mission to facilitate Internet traffic (IP) exchange and accelerate the growth of the Internet in Greece.

It is an important national infrastructure, as it connects the largest Internet companies in Greece, such as Internet service providers, content providers, and cloud service providers. GR-IX is owned by the National Infrastructures for Research and Technology (GRNET S.A.), which, as a non-profit public company, guarantees the neutrality and independence of the Internet Exchange.

GR-IX was founded in 2009 as the successor to the Athens Internet Exchange (AIX), which had been operating since 1999.
